Modular Belts for the Frozen Food Industry
The frozen food sector covers a wide range of products:frozen dumplings, seafood, meat, fried snacks, fruits and vegetables. Low temperature, high humidity, frequent water washing and ice residue are the typical working conditions here. Ordinary rubber belts easily harden, crack and lose friction in cold environments, while metal belts are heavy, prone to rust and hard to clean. Food-grade plastic modular belts have become the preferred conveying solution for frozen food production lines.
Core functions of modular belts in frozen food lines

1.Stable transportation in low-temperature environments
They keep flexible at sub-zero temperatures, avoiding brittle fracture. The interlocking module structure carries frozen goods steadily during lifting, horizontal conveying, sorting and freezer infeed/outfeed.
2.Good drainage and anti-icing performance
Most frozen workshops have melted ice water on the belt surface. Open grid-style belts quickly drain water, reduce ice accumulation on the belt, and lower the risk of products sticking or sliding.
3.Easy sanitation and high hygiene standard
Modular belts can be quickly disassembled without special tools for CIP cleaning. No hidden gaps for food debris, ice scraps and bacteria to breed, meeting food safety requirements such as FDA.
4.Low maintenance cost
If individual modules are damaged by impact from frozen hard products, you only replace the broken piece instead of the whole belt, greatly cutting downtime and spare part costs.
5.Adapt to diversified line layouts
Available for straight running, turning and inclined lifting lines. Matching side baffles and cleats can prevent frozen packages and loose products from slipping during elevation.
Recommended belt styles for frozen food
1.Flush grid modular belt (Most widely used)
Open mesh design with excellent drainage and air circulation. Ideal for frozen seafood, vegetables, fried food before freezing tunnel and post-freezing de-icing conveying.
2.Perforated flat top belt
Small holes on a solid surface. Suitable for packaged frozen food, when you need drainage but must stop small loose products from falling through the mesh.
3.Cleated/raised rib incline belt
With integrated cleats or ribs, used for upward lifting of frozen pouches, boxes and bulk frozen food, anti-slip and anti-backslide.
4.Side-flexing modular belt
For U-shaped, circular freezer layouts, saving workshop space for continuous frozen food processing.
Recommended materials
PE (Polyethylene)—First choice for ultra-low temperature
Excellent low-temperature toughness, remains flexible at-40℃, anti-brittle, low friction, food contact safe. Perfect for freezing tunnels, spiral freezers and deep frozen seafood lines.
PP (Polypropylene)
Good chemical resistance, resistant to cleaning detergents. Suitable for frozen food packaging sections above-15℃. Not recommended for extremely low temperature, it will turn brittle easily.
POM (Acetal)
High wear resistance, but poor low-temperature performance. Not recommended for long-term use below-10℃. It will become brittle under continuous freezing conditions.
Extra tips for frozen food working conditions
- Choose anti-stick surface treatment if sticky frozen products are frequent.
- Match with food-grade plastic sprockets to avoid metal rust contamination.
- Select belts with anti-UV and hydrolysis-resistant grade if the line uses frequent hot water cleaning after cold production.
